Biography:
Wesley Milner is currently Director of the International Studies Program and the Austin S. Igleheart Chair in Political Science. His primary teaching role involves offering international relations courses such as U.S. Foreign Policy, Politics of the Global Economy, Human Rights, and International Law and Organization. His career began in Washington, D.C. where he spent several years as a researcher for a government contractor, working closely with a number of security organizations such as the National Security Agency and the Department of Defense. Professor Milner’s international experience includes serving as a visiting professor with the University of Virginia’s Semester at Sea, Harlaxton College in England and Tokoha Gakuen University in Japan as well as research travel in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Eastern/Southern Africa.

His research, which integrates international political economy and human rights, has appeared in Human Rights Quarterly, the Journal of Private Enterprise, Sociological Quarterly, and a number of edited volumes, most recently Essential Readings in Human Rights from Lynne Reiner Publishers (2007). As Director of the International Studies Program, Professor Milner has managed the University’s summer study abroad program in Asia and supervised award-winning student delegations competing at the annual Model United Nations. He is also the faculty advisor for the campus chapter of Amnesty International. In addition to being nominated for the University’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award, he has won the Dean’s Teaching Award in the College of Arts and Sciences.
