Pre-Professional Social Work
The PRE-PROFESSIONAL SOCIAL WORK specialization
is designed for students who plan to pursue careers in human services/social
work-oriented occupations. Our pre-social work program is not a fully accredited
program, but our pre-social work majors have been accepted into some of the best
social work graduate programs in the country. In a few cases entrants into
graduate programs may be required to take one or two additional courses. Results
of departmental surveys indicate that our graduates feel that they have been
better prepared than other students in their graduate programs.
In addition to the sociology core and research sequence courses, students take
courses which prepare them for the job market or graduate study in social work.
These courses include:
1. Community Organization
2. Marriage and Family
3. Social Aspects of Health and Health Care
4. Minority and Ethnic Group Relationships
5. Aging: The Individual and Society
6. Introduction to Social Work
7. Introduction to Counseling
8. Advanced Social Work Seminar
9. Social Policy Analysis
10. Internship
